Michael Brennan Reflects on His Strong Fall Finish and Growing Confidence
Michael Brennan described his strong finish to the season, which included two PGA Tour victories, as an awesome way to close the year. Before those wins, he felt his season had been solid but lacked any exceptional finishes. He played in the majors and made some cuts, but his best results came later.
Brennan has won six times since last August, with three victories on the Americans Tour and three on the PGA Tour. All six wins came during August, September, or October, continuing a trend of strong fall performances.
He could not identify a specific reason for that success. Brennan suggested that being deep into the season may help him settle into a productive routine and find his rhythm, though he joked that he would prefer not to need five months to reach that point.
His victory in Utah also provided valuable security by giving him two years of PGA Tour status. That became especially important during the late spring and summer, when he was not playing his best golf and his FedEx ranking was below where he wanted it to be.
Knowing he had status for the following year reduced some of the pressure. Brennan emphasized that he was not writing off the season or waiting until the next year to play well. Instead, the security allowed him to recognize that failing to immediately turn things around would not be the end of the world.
He believes that calmer outlook may have contributed to his strong play later in the season. Brennan hopes to start next season well and avoid facing the same concerns, but he appreciated having that extra year of status to rely on while working through his struggles.
