2. Journalism (8-5)

One of only three horses to run in the Kentucky Derby, Journalism's morning line price continues to drop. Once listed at nearly even money, this colt checks in at 8-5. Sired by Curlin, Journalism should have the legs to finish in the money.
3. American Promise (15-1)

Sharp bettors may gravitate toward American Promise in the Run for the Black-Eyed Susans. This D. Wayne Lukas-trained colt got a bad trip in the Kentucky Derby, setting Saturday up as an ideal bounce-back spot. Winning progeny and elite speed figures are working in his favor.
4. Heart of Honor (12-1)
Trainer: Jamie Osborne
Jockey: Saffie Osborne

Any progeny from this colt's line might want to be called Always the Bride's Maid. Heart of Honor has three straight second-place finishes, but he did win at the 2024 Conditions. One of the few horses to have already been tested at this distance, Heart of Honor will be one to watch down the stretch.
5. Pay Billy (20-1)

With wins in five of his last six, Pay Billy is riding a wave of momentum into Saturday's race. Still, this colt has limited experience against top horses and hasn't been tested against Grade 1 competition—a deserving longshot.
6. River Thames (9-2)
Trainer: Todd Pletcher
Jockey: Irad Ortiz Jr.

A Preakness win is one of the few accolades that has eluded Hall of Famer trainer Todd Pletcher. However, he might finally get off the schneid with River Thames. This three-year-old sat out of the Kentucky Derby and has top-end speed to run with the best of them—a must-play for exotics.
7. Sandman (4-1)
Trainer: Mark Casse
Jockey: John Velazquez

Jockey John Velaquez is just two years removed from his first Preakness win and will be looking to get back into the winner's circle with Sandman. This colt has the speed and legs to compete and should finish higher than his seventh-place run in the Kentucky Derby.

Clever Again has a short morning line price, but a few factors are working against him at the Preakness. This colt is lightly raced and has yet to be tested against premier competition. Further, while his progeny is solid, distance could be an issue for this sprinter.
