And it's called the Dave's Friend. It's gonna be 6 furlongs on the dirt. Though we had a pretty competitive group lining up in this race here. You start things out with the #1 subrogate who is coming off a 4th place finish over at Aqueduct in the bold ruler. Not all that fast early, and I think sometimes that can put him in a tricky spot, especially when he's down on the rail here. He, he came running late for 4th. It was a fine effort, and if he were to show up with one of his best races, like we saw from him in the middle of 2024, that would go a long way against a group like that. I, I, I kind of go back and forth a little bit with him, Scott. What are your thoughts on subrogate? Yeah, I can see where you're coming from going back and forth, you know, I think we should get an honest pace, but not a chaotic one. Sometimes that could work out real well for him, but his last start, he got out of the gate real slow. Some of his other starts, he just doesn't get out of the gate first. The rail, he could put himself in a tight spot, but cutting the corner and having a good kick. You know, it it would depend on price for me. He's not my top pick in this race, but I wouldn't really talk anybody off him. We moved to Pattinga's twin, the #2. He has some big wins in his career. I mean, you look, he's won 5 times in a few of those races. He wins by 9 lengths, by 10 lengths, by 5 lengths. Even this race here we're watching, he wins this race by 3. He strikes the front, he opens up, he never looked like a loser in this race. It was really impressive. Uh, I always wonder when you bet a horse off of a big race like this, sometimes they regress a little bit, right? Because they just ran such a big race, it's hard to put two back to back. But I mean, you pick out some of his races individually, he's certainly capable of a big effort. He is, you nailed my thoughts on him. I mean, it took him a long time. And what I like to do with those trying to figure out regression is, look back to other big efforts. If it's his first big one, maybe something's figured out. But there's been other really big efforts, almost close to, you know, I think he had A buyer higher than this one, if I'm not mistaken. And it took him a long time to get back to his top efforts. So I'm very much worried about regression off of his last. Number 3 is Twisted ride. This guy comes off of a win on October 29th. He was in a small field at Parks. He pushed through from the inside to lead. He got pressure throughout. Uh, he actually got passed at the top of the lane, but he battled back. I think he was better than this group. Scott, and now he'll, he'll step up and face tougher. He'll probably have to deal with other speed in here. He's pretty honest though, this 6 year old, he's got 10 wins, 8 seconds, and 6/3s. He generally shows up with a pretty good effort and gives a nice account of himself. He does, he's hit, hit the board in all three starts at Laurel. Last time out of 4 to 5, like you said, it was just horses, he's better than, and he was a 10, he's a 10 time winner, but hasn't been winning races as much recently. I think he would really need to have things his way on the front end to win this race or even really uh maybe finish 2nd or 3rd. So I, I don't necessarily love his chances, but if uh Maximus Meridius, who we'll talk about in a minute, misses the break, that would really move him up. Uncle Cat tried turf last time out. His most recent win though, it was at Timmonium. He feels like he's in a little bit tough to me, kind of light on speed figures. Yeah, I understand taking a shot. This horse has hit the board in 6 of 10. He's local. You go turf the dirt off of a second place effort against this decent field, but he's in pretty deep here. He would, I would assume uh hitting the board would be very happy for them. Showstopper Copper is in nice form. I mean, you look at 4 consecutive races. Where he's run really well. He's won on the lead. He showed that he can sit off the pace a little bit. He lost to a horse named Saint Jude, who is 4 for 8 and has won 3 of the last 4 with some pretty high speed figures as well. Um, and Showstopper Copper is coming off a career best buyer speed figure. What do you think about his chances in here? Well, I think we talked about it last week with the claiming crown winner, one of the claiming crown winners, but horses that are, you know, in barns where they're the only horse or, you know, getting a lot of it. Focus and winning races. This horse is 5 for 12. I think he's the only horse in this bar and they have they're 2 for 5 on the year and he's 2 for 6 and he was at another start outside of it. So I think this horse is interesting. He likes to win races. He has to do so against better competition here, but I wouldn't just totally toss him because he's a Virginia bred for a barn you don't know. Yeah, a couple of horses that I had a tough time reading like Maximus Meridius because he's a multiple stakes winner. He's really quick. And if you go back to late. 2024, early 25, he'd be really tough in a spot like this. His last few races, they're not, they're not been bad. They just haven't been quite to his A game and as good as he can show with his best efforts. What do you think about Maximus Meridius in here? It doesn't seem like he's the same horse right now, you know, one recent win is at 1 to 5. He lost at 1 to 20. You know, his last race in the park sprint was fine. I'm just gonna play it and hope that he's not the same horse. I'm kind of. Thinking and hope, I just hoping, but thinking too that Twisted ride and Maximus Meridius get caught up in a little bit of a battle and kind of take each other's chances out here, compromise each other's chances, if you will. What makes this race tricky to handicap, Scott, is there are horses like you just mentioned with Twisted Ride with Subrogate is one of them. Maximus Meridius is one of them. Sonny Breeze, and we'll talk about Dean Delivers. These are horses that have showed up with big efforts, but they're not all that. Consistent, right? Maybe have run some of their better races, but you look at Sonny Breeze, proven at Laurel, 2nd start back off a short break. All of a sudden that race where he just missed in the gallant ball behind Ben Tornado looks even better after Ben Tornado was 2nd in the Breeders' Cup sprint and then wins it this year. Um, I think Sonny Bree's 2nd start back, he could sit a decent trip in here. He kind of got shuffled back a little bit sneaky in that race. What do you think about the Sevens' chances here? He's a horse I like quite a bit. He moves outside, which I think is key when you have a stalking style like him. He was down on the rail last time. I think it was a dead rail of Laurel if my sources tell me correctly, um, but, you know, just being on the inside when you're not fast enough to make the league can be harder on horses than being able to be right outside the speed, draft in, and just work out a perfect trip. He likes this course. I think he's gonna be a fair price. Scott Shapiro has some good sources. Listen when uh when they speak. Prince of Jericho is next up. He loves Laurel Park, Scott, he's a top contender, but he just hasn't raced since February. So I think he's one of the horses with the best ceiling, but he may need a race for his best. This Barn is really capable of. I'm ready off a long layoff though. Yeah, 14 for 51 over the last 30 days, 222 ROI for the Britney Russell Barnes. Tough to doubt them even off the break, but the price is going to be short. all 7 wins have come over this course. It's just, you know, you're just kind of hoping that he doesn't run his best.
