UFC Fighters Step Onto the Wrestling Mat Under Special Exemptions
The UFC is allowing active fighters to participate in wrestling matches, provided they do not compete against another active UFC fighter. They can face retired UFC competitors or athletes who are not signed with the promotion.
Lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan recently competed against jiu-jitsu black belt Dillon Danis. Their matchup featured plenty of bad blood, including a moment when Tsarukyan slapped Danis and later stepped on him. Although the competition used an American collegiate-style wrestling format, the confrontation also carried an element of WWE-style drama.
Danis previously pursued an opportunity with the UFC after beginning his MMA career with a 2-0 record. However, the segment explained that he was banned after repeatedly getting into altercations with UFC fighters while attending events.
Danis is also being sued by Logan Paul over private photos of Paul’s wife, Nina Agdal, that Danis posted before their celebrity boxing match. The lawsuit seeks approximately $1 million.
Khamzat also participated in a wrestling match against retired UFC fighter Robbie Lawler. These matchups demonstrate how active UFC athletes can compete in wrestling while avoiding direct contests against other active members of the UFC roster.
