Rousey vs. Carano: A Long-Awaited Showdown Finally Set for May
In Houston, Dana White recently discussed the upcoming and highly anticipated bout between former UFC icon Ronda Rousey and women's MMA pioneer Gina Carano. White revealed that he had previously attempted to arrange this fight himself. However, it's now been successfully set up for May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. Although White initiated the talks, negotiations had stalled with UFC's new owners TKO and executive Hunter Campbell.
The breakthrough came thanks to Jake Paul and former UFC employee Mikissa Vidarian through Most Valuable Promotions, facilitating this significant matchup in women's combat sports. White shared that he and Ronda Rousey had been discussing the possibility of this bout since last year, expressing contentment that it has finally materialized. He also mentioned being in a good place personally with Gina Carano, reflecting on past differences now resolved. White is evidently pleased for both combatants as they head into this milestone event.
While the undercard for the event hasn’t been disclosed, White hinted at the possibility of featuring retired combat legends, crossover sports stars, and C-list celebrities, underscoring the uniqueness of the event that, according to him, "doesn't really need an undercard."
