Rays Eliminate Cleveland as Milwaukee Emerges as the Pick in Six
Tampa Bay got the job done against the Guardians, ending Cleveland’s season in six games. Camero’s broken-bat ball off the foul pole provided a memorable moment, while Cleveland’s late effort proved to be too little, too late.
Cleveland appeared to run out of steam as the game progressed. The pitching held up for a while, but the offense once again struggled to produce runs. After Tampa Bay took a 2-0 lead, a Cleveland comeback never felt likely. Nathaniel Lowe recorded a hit that made it 3-1, but Kevin never’s home run effectively ended the contest.
Despite the loss, Cleveland can view the season as a successful one. The Guardians came back to beat the White Sox and took Tampa Bay to six games. Cleveland remains a good organization that could return to the playoffs next season and challenge the American League’s best teams again.
The Rays now move on without home-field advantage against Milwaukee. The Brewers are around -160, making Tampa Bay a decent-sized underdog. Milwaukee’s excellent play at home appears to be a major reason for those odds.
By eliminating Cleveland, Tampa Bay also earned extra time to reset its rotation and prepare for Friday. That makes the slight increase in Milwaukee’s odds surprising, as the additional preparation time could benefit the Rays.
The series could be another long one for Tampa Bay, but Milwaukee is playing as well as any team in baseball. The Brewers rarely lose multiple games in a row, and the Rays may need to win all three of their home games to have a strong chance.
Tampa Bay cannot afford to lose the first two games in Milwaukee. If that happens, the Brewers would be positioned to close out the series later. A final opinion will come Friday night, but the initial prediction is Milwaukee in six games.
