Rays Must Rediscover Their Winning Formula Despite 0-3 Deficit
Asked what Kevin Cash should tell the Rays while facing a 0-3 deficit, Bobby said the players must remember that they have been successful for a long time because they know how to play baseball the right way.
That formula has escaped them over the past few days. The Rays have made errors, been thrown out on the bases and appeared to be positioned improperly in the outfield. Even Cash, whom Bobby considers one of baseball’s top three managers, seemed asleep at the wheel during a couple of situations early in the series.
However, a team can regain its magic as quickly as it loses it. A bloop over the first baseman’s head, a broken-bat hit or a run scored after a poor swing can suddenly make a team feel that the worm has turned.
Milwaukee is on a run that resembles a snowball growing as it moves downhill. If the team experiences a defeat and begins questioning what is happening, the momentum could shift. Still, Bobby does not believe it will turn for four games. He expects Milwaukee to control the rest of the series and finish with the trophy.
He also noted that these are strong baseball teams without major superstars, which he views as good news for the sport.
