Brewers Sweep Dodgers as Three-Peat Bid Ends
The Milwaukee Brewers swept the Dodgers in the NLCS, completing the series with a 6-4 victory at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers led Game 4 by four runs, but Milwaukee scored six unanswered runs to win.
The Dodgers lost the first game 2-1 in Milwaukee, followed by a 7-4 defeat in Game 2 and a 6-2 loss in Game 3. Over the four games, the Brewers outscored the Dodgers 21-11 and hit seven home runs to the Dodgers’ one.
Shohei Ohtani provided the Dodgers’ only home run of the series with a three-run shot in Game 4, giving the team a 4-0 lead. It was his first home run since the middle of August.
The Dodgers were attempting to win a third consecutive championship, which would have been the first three-peat since the Yankees did it from 1998 to 2000. Instead, their season ended against a Milwaukee team that had the best regular-season record in baseball.
The Dodgers looked tired after playing deep into the postseason for three consecutive years. Dave Roberts did a good job getting the team this far, but the group appeared to run out of gas.
Above all, the Brewers deserve credit for playing better baseball. They got to the Dodgers’ pitching, outplayed teams with higher payrolls and more household names, and continued to find ways to win. If an opponent scored four runs, Milwaukee scored five. If an opponent scored two, Milwaukee scored three. Game 4 was another example of the Brewers doing enough to come out on top.
