Brewers' Winning Strategy: Latino Influence in the World Series

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From LatiNation Sports

Milwaukee’s Fundamentals and Latino Flair Take Center Stage

Baseball is about playing the game the right way at the right moment. Milwaukee has done that by following a simple approach: see the ball, hit the ball; see the ball, catch the ball.

Milwaukee has avoided costly mistakes throughout the World Series. In its loss, however, the team committed a couple of errors that ultimately made the difference. Despite that setback, Milwaukee holds a 3-1 series lead and is close to securing its first World Series title.

The team’s approach represents an old-school style of baseball built around fundamentals rather than home runs, launch angles, analytics, and numbers. Tampa Bay must embrace those same fundamentals to accomplish the unthinkable and win the series.

Tampa Bay has made mistakes at third base, first base, in the outfield, and behind the plate. Those errors create extra outs, and a strong team like Milwaukee will capitalize on every additional opportunity.

The World Series also features an important Latino presence, including Mexican, Venezuelan, and Dominican players. Latinos make baseball great, and their style has played a major role in making the series enjoyable to watch.

For Milwaukee, Jackson Trurio is from Venezuela, while catcher William Contreras is commanding the game. His brother, Wilson Contreras, won a World Series with the Cubs in 2016. Their presence reflects “Pelota Caribe,” the distinctive way Latinos play baseball.

Tampa Bay also features Latino players, including Junior Caminero at third base and Yan Aranda at first. The Latino influence on both teams has helped make the World Series simple, specific, and entertaining. Even without the teams followed throughout the season, the series has been fun to watch, and fans appear to be enjoying it as well.
