5 Most Overrated Teams in the NBA Right Now
The NBA season is underway, and with all the offseason chaos, many teams look different. Some powerhouses stay at the top of the projections, while some new squads have crept up the ladder.

It may be easier to talk about the underappreciated teams, but someone has to hold the overhyped ones in check. Let's indulge in five of the most overrated teams in basketball early in the 2026 season.
5) Charlotte Hornets
Here's a team that isn't projected to finish finish in the top six but could easily be terrible with a step back from last season.

Charlotte Hornets Team Profile
- Head Coach: Charles Lee
- 2025-26 Record: 44-38
- Division: Southeast
- 2026-27 Record: 3-2
- Current Place: 6th in Eastern Conference
The big attention on Charlotte this offseason was the loss of their point guard, LaMelo Ball, and despite the many names brought in, the team doesn't quite have a spark. Naz Reid strengthens the backcourt, and guards like Dennis Schroder and Buddy Hield provide decent support.

This is a young squad with tons of potential, with studs like Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel on the rise. No one is against a quality developing team, but it isn't one that's going to be playoff-caliber. It'll be a few years before Charlotte starts making some serious noise, so for now, settle for the low growl.
4) Toronto Raptors
Who doesn't love a reunion? Kawhi Leonard is back in Toronto amidst all the controversy in Los Angeles, and he has a decent supporting cast in the starting lineup.

Toronto Raptors Team Profile
- Head Coach: Darko Rajaković
- 2025-26 Record: 46-36
- Division: Atlantic
- 2026-27 Record: 3-1
- Current Place: 3rd (tied) in Eastern Conference
The depth isn't much to brag about, with no bench players averaging more than six points per game. The alarming stats over five games are the turnover differential and three-point percentage. The Raptors are a solid defensive team, and it's currently overshadowing their offensive struggles.
3) Indiana Pacers
Tyrese Haliburton is back after about 16 months on the sideline, but are the Pacers back as contenders?

Indiana Pacers Team Profile
- Head Coach: Rick Carlisle
- 2025-26 Record: 19-63
- Division: Central
- 2026-27 Record: 2-3
- Current Place: 7th (tied) in Eastern Conference
Coming off a season with the second-worst record in basketball, the offseason transactions weren't very exciting and left the depth chart in an interesting position. Since Haliburton last played in the NBA Finals two seasons ago, the Pacers traded away one of their top scorers, Bennedict Mathurin, to bring in Ivica Zubac from the Clippers. Zubac, filling the gaping hole at center since Myles Turner's departure, is an elite double-double threat. He makes a fantastic duo with Haliburton, who is already a great passer.

However, Haliburton's talents would be phenomenal if surrounded by terrific shooters, and that isn't really what Indiana's roster brings to the table. Many people consider this team a low-end playoff seed in the East, but without the magic they had in the postseason not long ago, they might not be that scary anymore.
2) Houston Rockets
Many predictions placed Houston as the fourth seed in the Western Conference this season. They should be comfortable in the playoffs, but with how talented the conference is right now, there's a solid chance they fall.

Houston Rockets Team Profile
- Head Coach: Ime Udoka
- 2025-26 Record: 55-27
- Division: Southwest
- 2026-27 Record: 5-0
- Current Place: 1st Place in Western Conference
On paper, the talent is magnificent, particularly in the starting five. It's hard to be underwhelmed by any team with Kevin Durant, no matter how many years he has left in his career. Last season's issue was the lack of a real starting point guard, with Fred VanVleet missing the entire season, and that conundrum seems to be solved now.

The spread stat sheet on this roster is encouraging, but the team has relied heavily on their 38-year-old forward, who leads them in minutes per game. It may sound harsh to say Houston will find their ceiling soon after such a hot start, but the West has several superior teams.
1) Miami Heat
Miami in the 2026-2027 season feels like a classic case of the "throw everyone in the package for a superstar" concept.

Miami Heat Team Profile
- Head Coach: Erik Spoelstra
- 2025-26 Record: 42-40
- Division: Southeast
- 2026-27 Record: 1-4
- Current Place: 12th (tied) in Eastern Conference
The Heat won the battle for Giannis Antetokounmpo, reeling him in during a hectic offseason, but it cost them multiple key pieces who held down heavy minutes in the rotation. With Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and Kel'el Ware traded away, the depth chart suddenly feels quite empty. The backcourt duo with Bam Adebayo might be one of the league's best one-two punches, but the guards aren't very electric, and the ball can only stay in the big man's hands for so long.

This feels like it's going to be deemed a failed experiment quickly, and one that could leave the Greek Freak feeling regretful. The first three games have only proven this theory further.
