Can OKC Remain an NBA Title Contender After Injuries?

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From Game Time Decisions

OKC Faces a Difficult Championship Path After Key Injuries

Injuries to Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace have raised questions about whether OKC can remain a realistic NBA championship contender. There has also been some buzz that the team may inquire about Russell Westbrook coming out of retirement.

OKC was one win away from the Finals last year despite injuries to Williams and AJ Mitchell. Mitchell stepped up with a career-high 30 points against the Phoenix Suns last night, highlighting the team’s depth at guard.

Still, replacing Williams and Wallace will be nearly impossible. Both provide all-defensive-level play, while Williams is also an All-NBA-level and All-Star-level player.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander remains one of the best players in the world, and the roster also includes Jared McCain, AJ Mitchell and Bennett Stirtz. Chet Holmgren will be asked to take on a larger role as well.

OKC could still win 50 games, but the team will have a very thin margin for error. Without Williams and Wallace, remaining a title favorite will be difficult.
