No. 15 Baylor vs No. 25 UConn FanDuel Odds

  • Spread: Baylor +2.5 (-104) | UConn -2.5 (-118)
  • Moneyline: Baylor (+128) | UConn (-154)
  • Total: OVER 144.5 (-114) | UNDER 144.5 (-106)

These two teams are built similarly based on what we have seen from the start of the season. Each offense ranks in the top ten in efficiency per KenPom, while each defense sits outside the top 70. They have each failed on multiple occasions to get a signature win under their belt, but they have shown some flashes of being teams that could compete down the road.

Baylor has bounced back well from a disastrous start to their season, a 101-63 road defeat to Gonzaga. Wins over Tennessee and St. John’s give them a few spots to hang their hat on, and a road win at the Huskies would be the ultimate feather in their cap from non-conference play. With two freshmen in their starting lineup, VJ Edgecombe and Robert Wright III, it’s fair to assume they will be a work in progress throughout the year as they get used to what head coach Scott Drew wants from them. They’re coming off a week of rest, so fatigue shouldn’t be a factor for the Bears here.

UConn is in the running for the most disappointing start to the season in the country. After being ranked third in the preseason AP Top 25, they now sit at the bottom of the list after going 0-3 at the Maui Invitational. There isn’t a better bounce-back spot than an on-campus battle against another ranked opponent where Gampel Pavilion will be as loud as ever. An unproven commodity must step up here for the Huskies to be competitive. With leading scorer Alex Karaban out due to a concussion, someone must step up and be the alpha the team needs to win a game of this magnitude.

It’s a double-edged sword backing a side here. While the Huskies have shown little reasoning to be backing them as favorites against a ranked foe, fading them in their own building could get ugly quickly based on what we have seen in the past two seasons. We’ll go with a total instead and back the over in a game where both defenses have struggled to start the season.

The Pick: Over 144.5 (-114)
