206-27 College Basketball Title Odds: Florida, UConn and More

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From Outspoken With Dan Sileo

Florida, Illinois, UConn and Saint John’s Headline the College Basketball Title Discussion

With college basketball around the corner, the discussion turned to several teams and their chances of winning the national championship.

Florida was described as a fantastic team with the best front line in college basketball, featuring Thomas Howe, Ruben Chenelo and Alex Condon. Denzel Aberdeen is also eligible to play as part of a lawsuit. Todd Golden won a national championship two years ago, and the program’s consistency makes Florida a leading contender.

Bringing players back was identified as an important factor in building a championship team. That continuity is one reason Florida and UConn are near the top of the board, along with Duke and the talent it has retained.

Illinois was also viewed as a possible Final Four team and national championship contender. Brad Underwood was called one of the country’s most underrated coaches, while Eva’s return gives the roster additional talent.

At 30-to-1, Saint John’s was presented as a bargain if it can keep its players eligible. Keyshaun Hall is eligible to transfer from Auburn, while Yesufu and Ellis add to the roster. Ellis, a dynamic player from Europe, was highlighted for his work at the point of attack. With everyone eligible, Saint John’s was valued closer to 15-to-1 or 20-to-1.

UConn remains another strong championship candidate because of its experience and the leadership of Hurley. The team also added Seton Hall transfer Niji Hines, nicknamed “Baby Shaq,” who played for Sheen Holloway. Hines replaces Tyrann Reed Junior.

The transfer also illustrated the divide between the haves and have-nots in college basketball, even among teams in the same league.

Several other programs were included in the wider championship conversation. Arizona under Tommy Lloyd is expected to be strong, while Michigan State and Izzo could pursue another title. Sean Miller at Texas, Louisville with Floyd Baunga, Virginia and UNC were also mentioned.

Houston sits at 30-to-1, its lowest position on the board in this discussion. With expectations reduced, Kelvin Sampson’s team could emerge when fewer people anticipate it.
