The 2024 college football season has begun! Through weeks zero and one, what we thought we knew about the ACC has been turned upside down and on its head. Clemson hung with Georgia for a half before the Bulldogs humbled them in the second thirty minutes. Virginia Tech was a conference title sleeper, and they lost on the road to SEC cellar-dweller Vanderbilt. North Carolina State, another ACC title sleeper, trailed in the fourth quarter against an FCS squad. Florida State is now 0-2 and looks somewhat disinterested. Miami is now the clear favorite to win the league, and the race for the second spot in the ACC Championship Game is wide open.
Let’s begin with a complete list of the games involving ACC squads and then dive into a couple of our favorite bets for Week 2.
BYU at SMU (-11.5) | Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2 |

ACC Best Bets
Tennessee (-7.5) vs. North Carolina State – Saturday at 7:30 on ABC/ESPN+
The Tennessee Volunteers and North Carolina State Wolfpack battle in Charlotte in primetime. This is a critical game for the perception of the ACC, and they could use a win if they want any hopes of landing a second team in the expanded College Football Playoff. North Carolina State was poor for much of their opening week contest against Western Carolina, but my pick has nothing to do with that. I am all in on Nico Iamaleava and the Tennessee Volunteers offense. I do not think the North Carolina State defense is near the same level it has traditionally been under Dave Doeren. I don’t believe the Wolfpack can keep Tennessee’s offense at bay, and I think Tennessee will win this game by double-digits. There are multiple bets that I would feel very strongly about in this game: Tennessee (-7.5) over the total of 61.5, and Iamaleava throwing for 300+ yards at +260 as a player prop.
Georgia Tech (-2.5) at Syracuse – Saturday at Noon on ACC Network
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are 2-0 after beating Florida State in Dublin, coming home, and impressively taking care of business against a game Georgia State squad. That was a difficult turnaround for the Yellow Jackets, and winning 35-12 over the Panthers was a sign of maturity and good coaching. Georgia Tech now hits the road for a game at Syracuse against new head coach Fran Brown. The Orange are 1-0, but they struggled on defense against an Ohio Bobcats team gutted by the transfer portal. The most telling stat from that game is Ohio rushing for 255 yards and gaining 436 yards. That is a giant red flag with the rushing attack of Georgia Tech coming to town. I have been on this Georgia Tech team all offseason, and they have validated my belief thus far. I like the Ramblin’ Wreck to win and cover at Syracuse.
