How the 12-Team College Football Playoff Works

  • This guarantees that conference champions are rewarded for their success.

First-Round Matchups

  • Teams seeded 5 through 12 will play in the first round.
  • These games will take place on the home field of the higher-seeded team, adding an electric college atmosphere.

Quarterfinals and Semifinals

  • The quarterfinals and semifinals will rotate among six historic bowl games: Cotton Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl, Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl, and Sugar Bowl.
  • These games will follow the traditional holiday season schedule, with semifinals held around New Year’s Day.

National Championship

  • The CFP National Championship will be played at a predetermined neutral site.
  • The 2025 title game is scheduled for Monday, January 20, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

Where Will College Football Playoff Games Be Played?

The CFP Semifinals will continue to rotate among six iconic bowl games: Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl, and Peach Bowl. First-round games, however, will introduce a unique twist, as they’ll be played on the home field of the higher-seeded team.
