Jaden Mickey committed to Notre Dame as part of the team’s 2022 recruiting class. The former four-star recruit joined the Fighting Irish looking to be the team’s starting cornerback. However, after being listed as the team’s backup in last week’s matchup against the Miami (OH) RedHawks, the junior opted to make a business decision.
The 20-year-old announced his decision to enter the transfer portal and forego the rest of the Fighting Irish’s season.

“Everybody’s going to have an opinion, myself included, but it’s not our opinion that really matters," head coach Marcus Freeman said. “Jaden Mickey made a decision that he felt was best for him, so for me to do anything other than support him, is selfish. I’m not in his shoes, I don’t know what’s going on in his life. This is what he said is best for him and his future."

Red Shirt Eligibility
By appearing in only four games, the NCAA redshirt rules will allow for the cornerback to carry an extra year of eligibility as he looks for an opportunity elsewhere.
In his three seasons at Notre Dame, Mickey racked up 23 total tackles. three pass deflections and one interception that resulted in a touchdown return.
