Nebraska at Iowa Week 14 | College Football Picks, Best Bets

TJ Inman

Host · Writer

The 6-5 Nebraska Cornhuskers travel to Iowa City to take on the 7-4 Iowa Hawkeyes in a Black Friday rivalry clash. Nebraska secured the school’s first bowl bid since 2016 with a cathartic win over Wisconsin last weekend. Iowa was also victorious on their last outing, handling Maryland to ensure a winning season. The two schools have met annually since 2011, and Iowa has won eight of the past nine meetings, but Nebraska’s offense finally woke up last weekend in the big win over the Badgers.

We’ve got you covered with our favorite plays from Friday’s showdown.

Nebraska at Iowa Best Bet ATS: Nebraska +5.5 and OVER 39.5

The SportsGrid model has a pair of five-star plays for this game with solid bets on the side and the total. Iowa is favored at home and the model does have the Hawkeyes winning but believes the Cornhuskers will cover, keeping this one within a field goal. In addition, the model has a five-star play on the total. The number is set at only 39.5 points and the model has this game reaching nearly 45 points, going well over the total. Iowa‘s offense has been a pleasant surprise this season, scoring an average of 29.4 points per game and reaching at least 29 points in five of their eight conference games. Nebraska‘s offense upgraded at offensive coordinator and Dana Holgorsen helped the Huskers to one of their best performances on that side of the ball last week. If the weather cooperates on Friday night, this game should go comfortably over.

Nebraska at Iowa Best Player Props

The SportsGrid model likes Nebraska to cover and this game to go over the total but there are also some fun player props to feast on. The SportsGrid model does not have any five-star recommendations on player props for this game. Still, interesting ones include Iowa star running back Kaleb Johnson to score an anytime touchdown (he has 21 on the season and has scored in every game) and Johnson to go over his total of 132.5 rushing yards. Iowa’s offense is expected to lean heavily on Johnson, and Nebraska can be run on. On the Nebraska side, Iowa has allowed only two rushing touchdowns all season so take Dante Dowdell to not score a touchdown. That means Nebraska’s points need to come from the air, and Dylan Raiola’s number is set at 1.5 passing touchdowns. Take the over for Raiola on touchdowns and yards (199.5).
