Kent State at Miami (OH) (-30.5) - Wednesday at 7:00
Can you make a point spread high enough for the Kent State Golden Flashes? Kent State is, very likely, the worst team in the country. They are 0-9 and have been outscored 414 to 136, including surrendering 209 points in five league games. Meanwhile, Miami of Ohio is the hottest team in the conference and the winner of four straight games. The RedHawks are one of four teams tied in first at 4-1. They won’t lose focus with an opportunity to stay with the leaders in the race for the crown. This is a huge number, but betting on Kent State is not advisable.
Prediction: Miami (OH) 45 - Kent State 10

Western Michigan at Bowling Green (-8.5) - Tuesday at 7:00
MACtion Week 2 gets underway on Tuesday night as the Bowling Green Falcons host the Western Michigan Broncos. The Broncos entered last week’s games in sole possession of first place, but life comes at you quickly. WMU lost to Northern Illinois and now turn around and travel to Bowling Green, with both teams sitting at 4-1 in the conference. Bowling Green has won three in a row, and Western Michigan is only 2-3 on the road this season. The Falcons will be tested in this one, but Bowling Green is riding good momentum, and Connor Bazelak is the better quarterback in this matchup. Take the Falcons to win by double-digits.
Prediction: Bowling Green 38 - Western Michigan 21
Ball State at Buffalo (-4.5) - Tuesday at 7:00
The first MACtion matchup features a pair of teams at the top of the league, while the second one of the week has two teams stuck in the middle. The Buffalo Bulls are 5-4 on the season and sitting at 3-2 in the MAC with wins over Northern Illinois, Toledo, and Akron. They now host Ball State as narrow favorites. The Cardinals have played very competitive league games, including three losses by 12 points and two wins by four. One of those wins feels like a loss, as they only beat Kent State by two points. Buffalo is the home team, but Ball State has done nothing to play close games. The SportsGrid model likes Buffalo to win but Ball State to cover.
Prediction: Buffalo 31 - Ball State 28
Central Michigan at Toledo (-14.5) - Tuesday at 7:00
The Toledo Rockets have been incredibly disappointing this season. Despite raising expectations with a thumping of Mississippi State, the Rockets have since lost to Western Kentucky, then by 15 at Buffalo, and 15 at home against Bowling Green. Last week, they played the struggling Eastern Michigan Eagles and only prevailed by one point. Central Michigan is one of the worst teams in the MAC, but this version of Toledo cannot be trusted with a large point spread. Take Central Michigan to cover the 14.5 points.
Prediction: Toledo 31 - Central Michigan 24
Akron at Northern Illinois (-15.5) - Wednesday at 7:00
The casual fan likely would have guessed Northern Illinois was leading the Mid-American Conference. After all, the Huskies beat Notre Dame earlier this season, so surely they were the league’s best team. Not so fast, my friend! NIU entered last season at 1-3, ahead of only Kent State in the win column. Thomas Hammock got his team focused and revved up the offense for MACtion, and NIU beat Western Michigan at home with 42 points on the board. They now get a chance to make a move with 2-7 Akron at home, followed by a trip to Miami of Ohio, and a home game against Central Michigan. Northern Illinois will not waste this chance, and they’ll grab bowl-eligibility with a comfortable win over the dreadful Zips.
Prediction: Northern Illinois 31 - Akron 10
Eastern Michigan at Ohio (-9.5) - Wednesday at 7:00
The Ohio Bobcats keep plugging along, and they sit tied for first at 4-1 in the MAC and 6-3 overall. Ohio has the best defense in the league, allowing only 81 points through five conference games. They are hosting the Eastern Michigan Eagles, losers of two straight. EMU lost to Akron in their last road game, which sends a big red flag as they now head to Athens to play the Bobcats. Ohio is going to thump the Eagles.
Prediction: Ohio 31 - Eastern Michigan 13
