The SEC Network is set to kick off a landmark season in Southeastern Conference football, heralding a revamped era with an expansive array of matchups that promises to captivate college football enthusiasts nationwide, starting Thursday, August 29.
The opening salvo of the season unfolds on SECN with Missouri hosting Murray State in a gripping Thursday night contest. This game is just the beginning of a 38-game lineup involving SEC teams across ESPN platforms in the first four weeks, with SEC Network broadcasting 10 of these games.
A notable change this year is the introduction of a new scheduling format across all ESPN platforms for SEC games. This format will provide teams and fans with the approximate start times for the entire season, considerably enhancing the viewing planning process. Specific television windows for these games, such as early afternoon or prime evening slots, will be disclosed on June 11. Alongside this, the SEC Network will air ‘SEC Now: Inside the 2024 Schedule’ at 2 p.m. ET the same day, offering a comprehensive breakdown of the SEC schedule.
The first full Saturday sets a new rhythm with games scheduled for 12:45 p.m., 4:15 p.m., and 7:45 p.m. This scheduling includes tripleheaders each Saturday for the first three weeks, featuring significant matchups like the Oklahoma Sooners making their SEC Saturday Night debut on September 7 at 7:45 p.m. Kentucky and Tennessee will also grace these prime slots in the initial weeks.
This season, platforms like ESPN+ will play a crucial role, airing games involving Auburn, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss on August 31. Subsequent weeks bring heavyweights like Florida, Georgia, LSU, and Missouri into the fold, with these games also simulcast on SEC Network+.
As for marquee events, the season is studded with standout clashes like Clemson versus Georgia in the Aflac Kickoff Game, and an electrifying encounter between USC and LSU in the Vegas Kickoff Classic. New coaching eras will commence at Texas A&M and Alabama, adding a layer of intrigue to their respective games.
Weeks 2 and 3 continue to dazzle, featuring SEC on ABC showcasing its first all-SEC duel and ABC Saturday Night Football headlining a potent clash between Kentucky and Georgia. This surge of football fervor ushers in an SEC tripleheader under the new conference rights agreement in Week 3, underscoring the depth and intensity of the new-look SEC season.
As the landscape of college football evolves, these changes in SEC’s scheduling and broadcasting promise to enrich the fan experience, ensuring that every kickoff, pass, and touchdown in the 2024 season is more accessible and thrilling than ever.
