Drew Mestemaker's QB1 Buzz Shakes Up NFL Draft Odds

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From SportsGrid College Football Today

Oklahoma State Matchup and Mess to Maker’s Rising Draft Buzz

Oklahoma State is in an interesting spot tonight. Iowa State narrowly missed making the card because it is a big number to lay on the road against Oklahoma State. Still, Mess to Maker’s level of play deserves recognition after he covered against Colorado last week.

A poll naming Mess to Maker QB1 in this draft class created morning movement in the market for the first overall pick. Mess to Maker is half the price of CJ Carr at 210. The other quarterbacks listed include Menta at 12-to-1, Chambliss at 14-to-1 and Manning at 16-to-1.

The Mess to Maker QB1 buzz is reaching a fever pitch, but October draft talk can be premature. Last week the discussion centered on Eli, while Jeremiah Smith was the focus the week before. At this point last year, Arch Manning and Carson Beck were each discussed as potential No. 1 overall picks.

Mess to Maker has looked great, and one speaker said he would probably prefer him to Arch while still wanting Jeremiah Smith. However, the season still needs to play out, followed by pro days, combines and more film evaluation. The Dolphins also do not yet hold the first overall pick, so it is too early to determine whom they should select.

One advantage for Mess to Maker in the market is the lack of clarity about which players will enter the draft. There is buzz about CJ Carr returning, especially if Notre Dame does not win the national championship. Getting more college reps can benefit players near the cut line, although Carr should leave if he is told he will be a top-10 pick.

For Mess to Maker, the situation appears clearer. If he knows he is currently a top-10 pick, he is expected to enter the draft.
