Florida State Fires Mike Norvell: Who Will Replace Him?

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From Game Time Decisions

Florida State’s Coaching Search Raises Questions About a Jimbo Fisher Reunion

Mike Norvell is out at Florida State following a loss to Clemson. His departure comes with a payout of just over $50 million, described as the third-largest for a college football coach. Jimbo Fisher’s Texas A&M payout was cited as the largest, while Brian Kelly’s $53 million was listed second.

Attention now turns to Florida State’s possible successors, with Fisher reportedly at the top of the hot board. Although he won consistently during his previous tenure at Florida State, there are concerns that his offense became stale and that he failed to evolve as an X’s and O’s coach at Texas A&M.

Other names mentioned include Duke head coach Manny Diaz, Wake Forest head coach Jake Dickert, SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee and Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz. Dickert was highlighted as an outstanding candidate who could be a fantastic choice.

Deion Sanders was also discussed because of his connection to Florida State, though Colorado’s struggles and questions about what he has proven at the college level could work against him. Still, if Florida State is willing to consider bringing Fisher back, there is an argument for interviewing Sanders as well.

Regardless of the eventual choice, the expectation is that Florida State can attract a strong coach and return to winning.
