LSU vs. Mississippi State Over 55.5 Betting Pick and Odds

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From SportsGrid College Football Today

Falling LSU-Mississippi State Total Creates Potential Over Value

The spread for LSU-Mississippi State has moved to 18.5 points as sportsbooks assess what Mississippi State will look like without Kamario Taylor. While the uncertainty has pushed the total down to 55.5, that drop may have created value on the over.

Mississippi State has likely known for some time that Taylor would not play. If he has not been healthy enough to practice, the team has had opportunities to prepare another quarterback. Freshman Parker Puckett, who replaced Taylor against Alabama, appears to be the likely option.

Mississippi State may only need to score around 10 points for the over to have a strong chance. LSU could approach 50 against a struggling Mississippi State defense, and Taylor’s absence does not change the defensive matchup. Even if Mississippi State cannot move the ball consistently, turnovers could give LSU enough opportunities to push the game past the total by itself.

LSU is 4-2 and may need to run the table, making this a spot to score as many points as possible. Style points could matter if LSU finishes 9-3 and is making its case for a spot. A matchup against the No. 16 team also gives LSU an opportunity to produce a convincing result.

The spread’s move from 14 to 18.5 makes taking either side less appealing. However, if Mississippi State can still score without Taylor, the reduced total becomes even more attractive. LSU’s team total is another possible approach, although it may be too high for some bettors.

With Lane coming off a loss and unable to afford another defeat, this could become a pick-your-score situation. Whether Mississippi State contributes offensively or LSU controls the scoring on its own, the over at 55.5 is the preferred angle.
