Miami Makes Its Case as College Football’s Best Team After Another Wild Weekend
Another crazy weekend in college football saw several highly ranked teams fall. No. 2 BYU’s highest ranking in school history lasted just one week before a loss to Central Florida. Ole Miss lost at Texas, Texas Tech fell to Cincinnati, and Tennessee and Houston also went down.
Miami, meanwhile, won easily again. It is difficult to declare the Hurricanes the best team in the country based on their opponents, but it is even harder to identify a more deserving No. 1 team. Miami has won every game and dominated most of its opponents, including a decisive victory over Pitt on Saturday.
The Hurricanes ran the ball at will, while Malachi Tony continued to look like a potential Heisman Trophy winner. He delivers the explosive plays, huge games, multiple touchdowns, and unstoppable talent associated with the award. Tony is remarkable with the football in his hands.
There may be reasons to push back against Miami being No. 1, but the central question remains: If the Hurricanes are not the best team in the country, who is?
