Ohio State vs. Indiana Picks: Hoosiers and the Under

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From SportsGrid College Football Today

Indiana Backed at Home as Ohio State Matchup Points Toward the Under

Ohio State is a three-point favorite against Indiana in Bloomington after the available 3.5-point lines disappeared. Indiana at +3.5 was the preferred play, although the Hoosiers remain playable at +3. The expectation is that Indiana can win the game outright, with the home underdog viewed as too closely matched with Ohio State to be getting a field goal.

Ohio State has faced a slightly tougher schedule, but the perception that the Buckeyes have been significantly better than Indiana this season is disputed. Ohio State ranks first in the country in yards per pass attempt, while Indiana ranks second. The Hoosiers also rank fifth in yards per carry, giving them a more balanced offensive attack.

Ohio State has excelled at defending the pass, while Indiana has been excellent against the run. Jeremiah Smith is capable of producing a huge performance without necessarily deciding the result. He recorded eight catches for 144 yards in last year’s Big Ten title game and eight catches for 164 yards and a score against Texas, but Ohio State lost both games.

Ohio State may have the stronger roster from top to bottom and two Heisman Trophy candidates, but Indiana has not lost since the calendar turned from 2024. Getting three or 3.5 points at home carries value for a team capable of winning the game.

The defenses also support a play on under 50.5. Although both offenses are among the country’s most explosive, their defenses may be even better. Last year’s meeting finished 13-10, less than half of the current total.

Indiana allows fewer than 12 points per game, the best mark in the conference, while Ohio State ranks second at 13.2 points per game. Ohio State is fifth nationally in total defense and eighth in pass defense. Indiana allows only 75 rushing yards per game and 2.3 yards per carry.

Indiana showed it can win a low-scoring game by beating Nebraska 20-17 despite finishing with 328 total yards. Both teams can win shootouts or defensive battles, but they also operate at a deliberate pace of approximately 28 and 29.5 seconds per play. That slow tempo strengthens the case for under 50.5 in what should be a close game, with Indiana also capable of winning outright or covering the spread.
