Ole Miss vs. Missouri Prediction: Rebels Cover at Home

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From SportsGrid College Football Today

Ole Miss Backed to Cover Against Missouri in Oxford

The line for Missouri’s road game against Ole Miss is moving toward the Tigers, with numbers ranging from four to 5.5 points. Despite that movement, Ole Miss is the preferred side.

Missouri has enjoyed an impressive run, including wins over Florida and Texas A&M, but this will be its fourth consecutive game against a major SEC opponent. Those victories came at home, while Missouri lost its only SEC road game at Mississippi State.

Ole Miss has not played at home since beating LSU last month. The Rebels responded to their loss at Florida by scoring 52 points in a blowout win at Vanderbilt. Lacy returned in that game, recording seven carries and a touchdown. With Lacy being eased back into action, the Ole Miss offense should be rested for Missouri.

Trinidad Chambliss presents a difficult matchup for a Missouri defense ranked 114th nationally in explosiveness allowed. Ole Miss thrives on explosive plays and continued producing them even in the loss to Florida. Chambliss was especially effective in the second half of that game, when Florida struggled to stop him.

Missouri’s run defense has looked strong, while Ole Miss has been at its best throwing the football. Lacy’s return could bring more balance to the Rebels after his limited role against Vanderbilt.

The quarterback matchup between Chambliss and Simmons adds another intriguing element. Both have generated draft interest, although the excitement around Chambliss has cooled slightly while interest in Simmons has grown. Still, Chambliss is the more trusted quarterback in this matchup.

Missouri previously lost a high-scoring game at Mississippi State after failing to keep pace late. Facing another explosive offense on the road creates a difficult challenge. Ole Miss is expected to take care of business in Oxford, with a double-digit victory firmly in play.
