Ranking the 10 Most Overrated Prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft

10. David Bailey (EDGE, Texas Tech)
Why He's Overrated: Bailey flashes enough ability to absolutely warrant first-round attention. At the same time, I think the top-five or top-10 conversation gets carried away when you remember he has had only one year as a full-time starter. There are still consistency concerns, and as Bailey's workload grew, the efficiency did not always hold up the same way.
1. Ty Simpson (QB, Alabama)
Why He's Overrated: I think the QB2 and fringe first-round talk is a little rich. Simpson has only 15 career starts, and while the talent is there, he still looks too shaky when the pocket gets muddy, and he's forced off schedule. To me, Simpson's stock feels boosted as much by the lack of proven quarterbacks in this class compared to what he has actually put on film.
2. Arvell Reese (LB/EDGE, Ohio State)
Why He's Overrated: Reese is a tremendous athlete, but I think some of the top-two or top-five hype is leaning too heavily on projection. A lot of the excitement comes from what he might become as an edge defender, even though he has had only 99 career pass-rush reps from the edge. That is a pretty thin foundation for the kind of draft slot people are talking about.
3. Jeremiyah Love (RB, Notre Dame)
Why He's Overrated: I love the player. What I don’t love is the idea of spending a top-five or top-10 pick on a running back unless the case is overwhelming. Love is explosive and dynamic, but positional value still matters, which is why the hype feels a little too high to me.
4. Sonny Styles (LB, Ohio State)
Why He's Overrated: Styles tested like a star, and I understand why the athletic profile excites people. Even so, when a player has only one career interception and three forced fumbles over more than 2,000 snaps, I have a hard time fully buying into top-10 hype. The traits are elite; the splash production has not quite matched that level of excitement.
5. Caleb Downs (S, Ohio State)
Why He's Overrated: Top-five or top-10 talk for a safety is always going to make me pause. Downs is a very good player, but that is premium draft capital for a position that usually has to offer almost no questions at all. I'm not sure that is the case here, especially since Downs was not constantly asked to live in those tougher man-coverage situations close to the line.
6. Kadyn Proctor (OT, Alabama)
Why He's Overrated: There is no denying Proctor's physical talent, and that is what makes him such an easy player to dream on. But ranking him in the top 10 or even comfortably in the top 20 asks me to overlook too many unfinished parts of his game. Proctor can be late off the snap, his technique and discipline still need work, and I think the possibility of him ending up at guard is more real than some want to admit.
7. Carnell Tate (WR, Ohio State)
Why He's Overrated: Tate clearly has first-round ability, but I’m not sold on him being the WR1 or a top-10 type of prospect. Since Jeremiah Smith arrived, Tate has benefited from seeing much more single coverage, and I think that matters when projecting him. Throw in the 4.53 speed, and I see a really strong receiver prospect, just not quite the slam-dunk top target some others seem to be.
8. Rueben Bain Jr. (EDGE, Miami)
Why He's Overrated: My issue with Bain is that his profile isn't nearly as clean as people make it sound for a player getting top-10 edge-rusher hype. The biggest red flag is his sub-31-inch arm length, which is a real outlier for the position. Bain is talented, yes, but that kind of projection concern matters when the draft range gets that high.
9. Kenyon Sadiq (TE, Oregon)
Why He's Overrated: Athletically, Sadiq is easy to fall in love with. That said, I think the push into the middle of Round 1 is leaning too hard on traits. He had limited college production, is roughly 6-foot-3 and 241 pounds, and right now I see more of a move weapon than a complete, every-down tight end.
