Seahawks Favored in Potential NFC Championship Preview Against Bears
The Bears and Seahawks may not be finished making moves before the November 10 trading deadline. Seattle general manager John Schneider has already added Quentin Nelson, while the Bears made a major addition with Jeffrey Simmons.
Jonathan Taylor was mentioned as a potential fit for Seattle. The addition of Nelson gives the Seahawks a strong run-blocking offensive line, but the team still lacks a proven three-down workhorse. Ja'Darian Price and Zach Charbonnet should return from injury this week, but Taylor could help JSN carry the offense. Seattle has already completed a deal with the Colts, raising the possibility that Taylor was also discussed.
Chicago could continue strengthening its defensive line. Simmons provides a significant upgrade on the interior, while Josh Sweat or a reunion with Khalil Mack could improve the Bears’ edge rush.
The discussion also focused on whether Schneider miscalculated by allowing Kenneth Walker to leave without a substantial contract offer. Walker was an important part of Seattle’s offensive identity during its playoff run, helping the team control the clock with the running game while relying on strong defense.
Although teams are often reluctant to give running backs major contracts because of injuries and their short shelf lives, Seattle remains in a Super Bowl window. Price may eventually become a good running back, but his injury and fumble issues have made Walker’s departure more noticeable. In hindsight, Schneider may regret not offering Walker more money, even if the Seahawks eventually solve their running game.
For tonight’s matchup, Seattle’s home-field advantage could make the difference. The Seahawks may also establish a clearer offensive identity with Nelson in the lineup and Charbonnet and Price returning. Along with Emmanuel Wilson, Seattle could use a three-headed rushing attack to control the clock, reduce the pressure on JSN and keep the Bears’ offense off the field.
Chicago is still expected to play well. Caleb Williams has been fitting passes into tight windows and making throws that few quarterbacks can make. Simmons’ impact on the Bears’ defensive line will also be worth watching, but the Seahawks were picked to win a close game at home.
Williams could also work his way back into the MVP conversation. Missing three games may hurt his case because accumulated statistics matter, but continued strong play and victories in major prime-time games could move him into the top five.
