Broncos Edge Chiefs in Thrilling AFC West Showdown

Broncos Edge Chiefs in Thrilling AFC West Showdown

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From The Sporting Tribune Today

Broncos Rally Past Chiefs With Dramatic Goal-Line Stand

The Denver Broncos erased an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Kansas City Chiefs 28-24 in a game with first place in the AFC West at stake. Denver sealed the victory by stopping Kansas City multiple times near the goal line and sacking Patrick Mahomes on fourth-and-goal on the final play.

The Broncos improved to 6-2 with their fourth consecutive win, while the Chiefs fell to 5-2 after two straight losses. Kansas City appeared to be in control with a 24-13 lead, but Denver once again found a way to rally at home.

Denver went three-and-out on all three of its third-quarter drives before scoring on both of its fourth-quarter possessions. The comeback continued a remarkable stretch for the Broncos, who have won 15 consecutive one-score games over the past two seasons.

Kansas City outgained Denver 399-294, and Mahomes threw for 300 yards. However, the Chiefs committed 11 penalties for 105 yards, compared with six penalties for 45 yards by the Broncos.

The loss dropped Mahomes to 80-3 when leading by double digits in the fourth quarter. The discussion centered on whether his familiar late-game magic still exists, particularly after Kansas City failed to score despite having four opportunities near the goal line.

Denver’s home-field performance received significant credit for the result. The Broncos were described as a much stronger team at home than on the road, and their defense made the decisive plays when Kansas City had a chance to win.

Another concern for the Chiefs is Harrison Butker’s recent performance. He missed another field goal Sunday and has missed 16 kicks since the beginning of last season, the most by any kicker over that span. His six missed field goals this season are already a career high.

The speakers concluded that Kansas City appears to be coming back down to reality. They questioned whether opposing defensive coordinators are beginning to figure out how they want to play the Chiefs and whether Kansas City can continue to be taken seriously with its current kicking problems.
