Caleb Williams Returns: Bears-Falcons Shootout Preview

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From NFL Pro Football Today

Caleb Williams’ Return Gives the Bears a Chance to Spark Their Offense

The Chicago Bears will have starting quarterback Caleb Williams back against the Atlanta Falcons. Although Williams gave mixed messages about his injury during a press conference this week, he is expected to play. The Bears remain slight favorites in a game with one of the week’s highest projected totals.

Williams’ return comes at an important time for Chicago. Tyson Badgent struggled in his absence, while the Bears’ offense has dealt with inconsistency from Luther Burden, Colson Loveland and Roma Doonze. The running back situation has also been affected by Manonga’s absence and D’Andre Swift’s injuries.

Atlanta is expected to have Michael Pennox Junior available as well. He has played well since returning, although he was unable to finish the previous game. With both defenses struggling to stop opponents, the matchup is expected to produce plenty of points. The total opened at 50.5 and later moved to 52.5, with confidence remaining in the over.

Williams may not solve every problem immediately, and he could show some rust. However, his ability to extend plays and create opportunities with his legs could help the Bears get moving again.

Another key will be whether Williams can reignite Colson Loveland. Loveland was a major part of Chicago’s offense during the final eight weeks of last season and into the playoffs. Week one offered little production, while week two was a 9-3 game in which few players were useful. With two-thirds of the season still remaining, this matchup could be Loveland’s opportunity to get back on track.

From a fantasy perspective, patience with Loveland is wearing thin after repeated disappointments and a zero-catch performance. Still, he is getting one more chance this week. Even three catches for 30 yards would provide something positive to build on, but another empty performance could mark the end of that patience.
