Chargers Injury Outlook: Can Justin Herbert Keep Hope Alive?

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From NFL Pro Football Today

Injuries Leave Justin Herbert and the Chargers Facing an Uphill Battle

The Chargers are enduring a difficult season as their offense struggles with injuries, limited playmakers and protection problems. Justin Herbert has taken plenty of heat, but he has been asked to carry the team without reliable blocking in front of him.

There is some good news. Jim Harbaugh is coaching the team, Ladd McConkey is back and off the injury report, and right tackle Joe Alt should not be out for long. However, Rashawn Slater is expected to miss more time, while the Chargers have also dealt with problems at center and along the interior offensive line.

Those offensive line issues contributed to last season’s decline, and the Chargers are now facing defensive problems as well. The Chiefs hold a significant health advantage, with most of their roster available outside of their left tackle and Rashee Rice. Their backup linemen have also played well in place of Josh Simmons.
