Commanders vs. 49ers Monday Night Odds & Betting Preview

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From Game Time Decisions

49ers Favored Over Washington as Primetime Underdog Streak Faces a Major Test

Washington and the 49ers close out Week 6 with an 8:15 kickoff. The 49ers remain seven- to 7.5-point home favorites, while the total sits around 51 to 51.5. Washington has received plenty of support in the market throughout the week, with the spread currently at seven at several books.

A potential letdown spot for the 49ers was discussed following their big divisional win over Seattle. However, backing Washington remains difficult because of its defensive struggles. Opponents have scored touchdowns on 15 of 18 red-zone trips against Washington, and the 49ers should be efficient enough to turn those opportunities into touchdowns rather than field goals.

Jayden Daniels played well against the Giants, so Washington could contribute to a high-scoring game. Some of those points, though, may come during garbage time in the second half.

Recent NFL results have also shown how vulnerable big favorites can be. Several favorites failed to cover and lost outright, but the 49ers may be different. They and Kansas City were described as a tier above the rest of the league, although unexpected results can always disrupt an apparent collision course.

The total may offer the more appealing approach. Monday night games have generally produced plenty of scoring, including 71 points the previous week. At the same time, underdogs have covered and won outright in 10 consecutive primetime games, creating another reason for caution.

This matchup gives the 49ers an opportunity to show that they are a cut above the rest of the NFL. While other teams have revealed significant flaws, the 49ers and Kansas City know exactly who they are, how they need to play and what they must do to win.

Kansas City’s success was also tied to Kenneth Walker’s impact. Walker was described as the most valuable piece to any team in the NFL, even though he is not on the MVP board. His production, combined with a strong offensive line, has made him look capable of gaining significant yardage nearly every time he touches the ball, with the goal line being the notable exception.

That impact also raised questions about how Seattle let Walker go and why other teams allowed him to land in Kansas City.
