Cowboys Crush Eagles 38-21 and Reshape NFC East Race

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From Pushing The Odds with Matt Perrault

Cowboys’ Rout Leaves Eagles Facing Major Questions

The Cowboys may have ended the Eagles’ season with a 38-21 victory. Philadelphia fell to 2-5, while Dallas improved to 3-4. The game’s total closed at 43.5, and the Cowboys scored 38 points on their own.

Devonte Williams, the most heavily bet player to score a touchdown, found the end zone and finished with 155 rushing yards. He became the first Cowboy since Ezekiel Elliott to rush for 150 yards in a game and the first opposing running back to reach that mark since Nick Sirianni became Philadelphia’s head coach in 2021.

After opening the season 2-0, the Eagles have lost five straight games. Philadelphia now faces serious questions heading toward the trade deadline. What should the team do with Saquon Barkley, Devonta Smith and the rest of the season, especially with Jalen Hurts not coming back?

The Eagles still have home games, ticket holders and other obligations, but this appears to be a lost season. With nine weeks remaining, Philadelphia must decide what it is playing for and whether the priority should be getting everyone healthy for next year.

The injuries to Hurts, Barkley, Smith and others have been significant. If Sirianni is not blamed for those injuries and returns with his staff, the focus shifts toward 2027 and preparing the roster for next season.

The NFC East race now appears to be between the Giants and Cowboys. After the Eagles won consecutive division championships, the NFC East will have a new winner this season. Before Philadelphia’s repeat, no team had won the division in back-to-back years for 20 years.

The Cowboys could emerge as that team, but the Giants look capable of becoming a serious problem for their opponents. New York’s defense played well on Sunday, and JJ McCarthy delivered a strong performance against the Texans.

That has created a conversation about JJ McCarthy and Jackson Dart as the Giants’ quarterback of the future. New York has significant money and a first-round pick invested in Dart, but McCarthy’s play under Harbaugh could change the team’s plans.

If the Giants win the division and reach the playoffs, they will face a major offseason decision. They could commit to McCarthy and consider trading Dart, making the NFC East race and New York’s quarterback situation two stories to watch.
