Cowboys Struggle as Packers Dominate in Sunday Night Showdown

Cowboys Struggle as Packers Dominate in Sunday Night Showdown

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From The Sporting Tribune Today

Packers Dominate as Cowboys’ Coaching and Offensive Issues Deepen

The Packers dominated the Cowboys in a highly anticipated matchup between two teams trying to find their footing. Green Bay led 17-0 at halftime after two Dak interceptions, and Dallas did not score its second touchdown until 44 seconds remained in the game.

The Packers are now 4-2 after winning three straight. Their offense looks different, while their defense showed encouraging signs against Dallas. Micah Parsons will eventually return, adding to a unit that already performed well against the Cowboys.

Dallas, meanwhile, has lost two straight and fallen to 2-4. The offense was expected to be a strength, with the defense viewed as the likely concern, but the Cowboys are now struggling on both sides of the ball.

Brian Schottenheimer’s hiring brought a familiar name, but questions remain about whether his credentials matched the demands of the Cowboys’ head coaching job. Jerry Jones has every luxury available to build a first-class organization, yet he continues to hire coaches who will remain under his control rather than pursuing an established candidate with undeniable credentials.

After the game, Schottenheimer told his players that the effort and fight were right, but mistakes were killing the team. He added that repeating mistakes was not what the Cowboys were about. However, the repeated issues suggest that some of the team’s problems may not be fixable during the season and could require offseason changes.

If Dallas continues losing and enters December with a poor record, Schottenheimer could become a candidate for a midseason firing. An in-season move from Jones may be difficult to envision, but continued underperformance would intensify the pressure, particularly with the NFC East there for the taking.

The Cowboys are not simply a bad team. They are not good enough. Their point totals through six games are 20, 37, 31, 34, 16 and 13, showing a clear decline over the past two outings. Their shortcomings repeatedly come back to coaching.

The defense has been bad, and the issues existed even when Michael Parsons was on the field. His absence is not the sole reason the unit is struggling. Dallas has talent on defense and some of the best talent on offense, but the coaching has not been sufficient.

Coaching still matters almost as much as the players. Great coaching can lift subpar talent to a respectable performance, while great players with subpar coaching produce a team like the Cowboys: not bad, but not good enough.
