Jaguars Favored Heavily as Colts Face Uncertainty
The Colts appear to be starting over after firing their general manager, with expectations that the coach will follow at the end of the season. As a result, the point spreads against Indianapolis could continue to rise.
Jacksonville enters today’s game as a 10.5-point favorite. Weather could be a factor, with rough conditions expected across Florida, including for the Dolphins-Patriots game at 4 p.m. Eastern.
One view is that the Jaguars are the best team in the division, but laying 10.5 points with Jacksonville is still difficult to justify. From that perspective, the choice is either taking the Colts and the points or staying away from the spread.
Another position favors Jacksonville, particularly after getting the line at 9.5 earlier in the week. The movement illustrates the potential value of betting early when a bad situation is likely to push a line higher. The Colts have continued to move talent, making improvement difficult to envision.
Bashel Tutan over 61.5 rushing yards is one prop to consider. Coming off the bye, he could benefit if Jacksonville builds a solid lead and runs the football more. Parker Washington over 65.5 receiving yards is another favored play.
The game’s context also matters for Jonathan Taylor, who faces the number one run defense while playing behind an offensive line that has already lost major pieces. Although the Colts can continue handing him the ball, player discontent, trade requests and teammates being dealt could affect morale and effort.
Taylor is expected to play this week despite the trade discussion. Next week could offer an opportunity to get ahead on other player props if a trade becomes more likely. Even if he is not traded, the Colts could choose to sit him and reassess the situation on November 10th.
Ultimately, Jacksonville’s strong play at home and the Colts’ difficult situation support the case for the Jaguars covering 10.5 points. The expectation from that side is that Jacksonville will dominate, even though the large spread remains too much for the opposing view.
