Josh Jacobs Faces Uncertainty as Touchdowns Mask Limited Production
The last 24 hours have brought unfortunate news for Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs. According to reporters covering the NFL, the league had not been made aware of alleged incidents that may have occurred in previous years. The NFL now has 10 days to evaluate the situation and determine whether Jacobs will play.
Although the stories remain allegations, it may be difficult for the NFL to ignore them over the next seven weeks. At some point, further developments or a resolution could emerge.
From a fantasy perspective, Jacobs may have more theoretical value than actual value. In Thursday night’s game, he recorded 21 carries for 39 yards, averaging 1.9 yards per carry. A rushing touchdown saved his performance on the ground.
Jacobs also caught six passes for 13 yards and a receiving touchdown. Those two touchdowns made his performance look better, but they may be an illusion that fantasy managers cannot expect every week.
The Packers’ offensive line has not played well, leaving Jacobs to run behind a struggling group. While he is the most talented player in that backfield, he also did not have a proper runway into the season. That raises questions about his health and the work he completed on the side while suspended.
There are too many questions and not enough answers. If Jacobs produces another game with similar yardage but without the touchdowns, fantasy managers who held onto him may wish they had moved him earlier.
