NFL Week 8 Coaching Hot Seat: Who's Next to Be Fired?

NFL Week 8 Coaching Hot Seat: Who's Next to Be Fired?

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From The Sporting Tribune Today

Several Struggling NFL Coaches Face Questions About Their Futures

Several disappointing teams could consider coaching changes, although Jim Harbaugh is not expected to be fired midseason. Aaron Glenn was identified as one coach who should not have made it to this season. His team scored 33 points but still lost to the Raiders, even as Mike Washington Jr. took over the rushing workload with 25 carries.

Zach Taylor also appeared to be on the hot seat before the Bengals completed a comeback win over the Titans. Cincinnati fell behind 13-0 and needed overtime to avoid another damaging loss. Cam Ward threw for more than 300 yards for the first time in his career, but Tennessee still lost. Taylor’s position appears safer after the comeback, though concerns remain about what he has accomplished since the team’s 2021 run to the Super Bowl.

The Colts have already fired their general manager and are trading players. One suggestion was to put Richardson in after a potential Jonathan Taylor trade, even if it helps secure the best possible draft position. However, the Colts’ pick belongs to the New York Jets, who currently hold three of the top 10 picks in the upcoming draft.

Aaron Glenn was again mentioned as unlikely to survive, while Miami’s situation was described as disastrous. Tennessee may be more surprised internally by its struggles after bringing in Robert Salah, who was viewed as having received a bad run with the Jets. The move to the Titans was described as lateral, with similarly difficult consequences.

Some NFL organizations are quick to make changes because teams believe they can rapidly go from worst to first. Harbaugh could potentially walk away, but no other immediate firing appeared certain.

Nick Siriani was also discussed, but his Super Bowl appearance and the circumstances around the roster make a firing difficult to justify this year. Something appears wrong with Saquan, Devonta Smith has become invisible, AJ Brown is gone, and Jalen Hurts has also faced issues. Despite concerns about Siriani being routinely outcoached, too many factors have worked against him to make a change now.

Dan Quinn may also be on his last legs in Washington. He is unlikely to be fired immediately after a win, but unless the Commanders produce a dramatic turnaround, he could be gone as well.
