Packers Beat Panthers as Defense Delivers at Lambeau Field
The Green Bay Packers earned a 27-19 victory over the Carolina Panthers at Lambeau Field, improving their record to 5-3. The game went back and forth, but Green Bay’s defense helped secure an important win on a short week.
Matt LaFleur praised the defense for limiting an offense capable of generating explosive plays. With the Packers struggling to get much going offensively in the second half, the defense stepped up and helped save the game. LaFleur also applauded the effort and energy his players brought to the matchup.
Jonathan Gannon, the former Arizona head coach, has helped settle Green Bay’s defense. The unit is generating pressure despite concerns about the offensive line, and Michael Parsons is expected back next week.
Jordan Love emphasized the importance of improving each week and stacking wins. Heading into a mini-bye and approaching the halfway point of the season, he said the offense must continue leaning on what works, build momentum and get players healthy. Love finished the game 30 of 41 with three touchdowns, showing greater consistency. Tucker Kraft also made an impact.
Carolina head coach Dave Canales appreciated his team’s fight but acknowledged that it was not enough. The Panthers made it a one-score game and had opportunities late, but they could not finish. Canales credited the Packers with making Carolina one-dimensional, creating pressure and attacking with blitzes. He also pointed to missed opportunities following turnovers, saying those situations needed to produce more points.
Ian Rapoport reported after the game that the Panthers fired their defensive coordinator and passing game coordinator Jonathan Cooley. Bryce Young also stressed the need to finish better, calling that Carolina’s identity and saying the team did not live up to it. He credited the defense and special teams with giving the Panthers a chance.
Christian Watson provided one of the night’s most dramatic moments. After leaving in an ambulance, he returned to the field and played again. Watson compared the scene to WWE, recalling the cameras following him as he emerged from the ambulance and the fans cheering his return. He described the experience as surreal and exciting.
