Green Bay’s Passing Game and Improved Defense Make the Packers a Potential Problem
The Packers could become a problem in December and January, especially with Josh Jacobs expected back. The key question is how Matt LaFleur will handle his return.
Green Bay could return to giving Jacobs the ball early and often, limiting Jordan Love and reducing opportunities for the wide receivers. However, the Packers should continue leaning into the strength of their offense: Love, the receivers and the other pass catchers. They may not remain as pass-heavy as they have been, but they should still prioritize the passing game.
Jacobs also gives Green Bay the threat of a capable running game that opponents must respect, which could make the passing attack even more dangerous.
The defense has also exceeded expectations. Jonathan Gannon was in his bag against Dallas, with the Packers blitzing effectively and the back end of the defense playing extremely well despite not having Micah Parsons.
There were questions entering the season about whether Green Bay could generate a pass rush or stop opposing offenses without Parsons. The defense has answered emphatically over the past two weeks. Chicago still had Ben Johnson and its playmakers despite missing Caleb Williams, but the Bears looked hapless. Green Bay then crushed a Cowboys offense that was at full strength.
Gannon has been a very good addition to the defense. With the unit performing at this level and more players expected back over the next month, Green Bay may offer value from both NFC and Super Bowl perspectives.
