Patriots vs. Dolphins Betting Picks in Severe Weather

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From NFL Pro Football Today

Bad Weather Shapes Patriots-Dolphins Betting Outlook

The weather in South Florida is as bad as it has been in a long time, and it could become a major factor in the matchup between the Patriots and Dolphins.

Miami appears to be the public bet after last week’s performance against the Jets, while New England is also missing some pieces. Still, these games are never easy to predict. The Patriots are 7.5-point favorites, and the lean is toward New England, although there is no specific bet on the spread.

Last week may have provided some false optimism for the Dolphins, while the Patriots’ defense looks strong. With the rough weather, this also has the makings of a low-scoring game. The over-under is 41.5, and the under could be the best way to bet it.

The Jets found a way to lose last week, continuing a pattern that also appeared against Cleveland before Cleveland found one more way to give the game back. That same opportunity may not be available to Miami this week.

Ollie Gordon to score a touchdown at plus 160 looks like a strong touchdown bet. Caleb Douglas, who was highlighted last week, could also be involved, although throwing the ball may be difficult in these conditions.

If the weather is as severe as expected, Malik Willis could run frequently. His rushing total is worth watching. The Dolphins are likely to rely on what they do best: running the football repeatedly, with an occasional pass to Caleb Douglas.

On the other side, New England could feature a heavy dose of Ramondre Stevenson with no Trayvon Henderson and no AJ Brown. That leaves the offense looking less dynamic and adds to the case for a low-scoring game.

Laying 7.5 points in a divisional matchup is significant. The line suggests the possibility of a convincing Patriots victory, perhaps something as lopsided as 31-3, though that is not a prediction that it will happen.
