Bengals Face Pressure to Fix Their Running Game Against the Titans
Cincinnati is laying 12.5 points against Tennessee, with the total set at 46.5. The Titans have consistently covered, but they have not been a particularly good football team.
The concern with backing Cincinnati is the possibility of a late Tennessee touchdown covering the spread. If the Bengals lead 30-16 with five minutes remaining, Cam Ward could lead a late scoring drive and open the back door for the Titans.
Cincinnati should be capable offensively, but the team continues to struggle running the ball. If the Bengals cannot score through the passing game, Tennessee could receive plenty of possessions. The Titans have played better on the ground, with Pollard becoming more involved in the offense.
Given the large spread, Cincinnati’s team total may offer another way to approach the matchup. With Simmons no longer in the middle of Tennessee’s defense, this is an opportunity for Chase Brown to establish himself as the running back Cincinnati expects him to be.
The Bengals appear to be losing patience, with Samaji P Ryan beginning to receive work. If Brown cannot produce against this Titans defense, Cincinnati may need to have serious discussions about improving its running game.
The Bengals have an opportunity to make headway in the AFC. Buffalo’s defense has struggled regardless of Josh Allen’s play, Lamar Jackson’s health has been a concern, the Patriots are not viewed as a Super Bowl team, Denver has had offensive problems, and Kansas City missed a major opportunity last week.
Cincinnati needs to capitalize. If Brown cannot get the job done, the Bengals must find someone who can because time is ticking on Joe Burrow and the organization. They need a win against Tennessee, but the size of the spread makes this a difficult game to bet.
