5 Most Dangerous Teams Entering the 2024 NHL Playoffs

Edmonton Oilers
If you want to count out Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, be my guest, but we wouldn't advise it. The Oilers have demonstrated they can win with this group if they get a save. The Oilers don't need Stuart Skinner to stand on his head in goal, but they need him to avoid allowing back-breaking goals. It's the hardest trophy in sports to win for a reason, but it feels almost wrong that we have yet to see McDavid lift the Stanley Cup. That can change in the coming months.

Carolina Hurricanes
The Carolina Hurricanes continue to be in the mix yearly but have yet to finish the job. We believe there is reason to be bullish about that changing in 2024, and the oddsmakers tend to agree. The biggest flaw the Hurricanes have had over the years is that they've seen their goal totals dry up in the playoffs. The Hurricanes saw an opportunity to go for it this year and added the biggest fish available at the trade deadline, Jake Guentzel. The former Pittsburgh Penguin has the experience and goal-scoring prowess missing from this group, highlighting why the Hurricanes are the odds-on favorite to capture the Stanley Cup in 2024.

Florida Panthers
If you said you expected the Florida Panthers to go on a run to the Stanley Cup Final last year, you're probably lying. The Panthers won games in many ways and continued to do that in 2024. The Panthers have a goaltender who can get hot, Sergei Bobrovsky, plus the physicality and goal-scoring needed to make a deep run. The Panthers have some unfinished business to tend to in the playoffs, and it would hardly be a shock to see them capture the franchise's first Stanley Cup.

Dallas Stars
The mix of players that the Dallas Stars have brought together presents a playoff-style roster. The scary thing about the Stars is that they already found significant success in the regular season, clinching the Central Division. With a legit group of youngsters, veterans, and a goaltender that can steal a series, it's hard to find many flaws with the Stars entering the playoffs. The Stars have yet to get over the hump with this core group, but they've found playoff success. We believe there's a strong chance they will do so again this time around.

Colorado Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche appeared to get bored down the stretch, but we all know they have another gear in the playoffs. Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar are two of the best players in the world, and we've already seen them lead this team to a Stanley Cup. The Avalanche are back with a vengeance after bowing out earlier than they'd have liked last year. They have shown us the extra gear needed to win it all, and we should believe in them again.
