Ovechkin broke the mark partway through the second period in the Washington Capitals‘ Sunday matinee versus the New York Islanders. Ovi took a pass from Tom Wilson as he entered the attacking zone, sniping it past Islanders netminder Ilya Sorokin. Dylan Strome was credited with the second assist.

The Capitals legend now sits atop the all-time goal-scoring list. But with five games left in the season and another year remaining on his contract, Ovechkin can ratchet that total higher.
For now, Washington remains focused on clinching the Metropolitan Division and President’s Trophy before setting its sights on another Stanley Cup.
The Capitals are currently listed at +1100 to claim this year’s championship, the sixth-best odds on the board.
