Spotlight on Vancouver: Preparing for the 2026 World Cup

Located on Canada's western shores, near the US border, Vancouver is deemed one of the most livable cities globally. It will be one of two Canadian cities hosting matches during the 2026 World Cup. The matches will take place at the Vancouver Stadium, the northernmost venue out of the 16 being used for the tournament, boasting a capacity of 55,000 spectators.

Vancouver Stadium, officially known as BC Place, is not new to the world stage, having been the central venue for the 2010 Winter Olympics and the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup final. Additionally, it serves as the home ground for the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League, Vancouver Whitecaps of Major League Soccer, and the annual Canada Sevens rugby event. Historically, in 2015 during the FIFA Women's World Cup, more than 53,000 fans attended a match here, setting a record for attendance at a Canadian national team game.

The site is currently undergoing enhancements to further beautify it before the World Cup. Vancouver Stadium will host seven matches during the event, including two group stage matches and two knockout games potentially featuring Canada, contingent on their progression. The venue's intense atmosphere and historical significance add to the excitement as Vancouver prepares to welcome football fans from around the world.

During a recent visit, the engagement with local authorities and the preparation efforts by the host city team were highlighted, reflecting the city’s deep connection with football. The Minister of Sport of Canada and the Mayor of Vancouver were notably welcoming, emphasizing the city's readiness and enthusiasm for the upcoming international spotlight in 2026.
