Tier V: DePaul, Georgetown
Another week, another stretch of losses for our bottom duo in the Big East. A combined 19 games for DePaul and Georgetown, and the only win came for the Hoyas over the Blue Demons last month. It's as pitiful as we have seen both programs, and it's time for both to look toward the future.
Tier I: UConn
The Huskies won a gross one over Providence on Wednesday night, showing they can pull off victories in many ways. It's the true mark of a champion, and UConn has the best chance of going back-to-back as national champions that we've seen since Florida did it nearly two decades ago.
A trip to Madison Square Garden and a date with St. John's awaits this weekend.
Tier II: Marquette, Creighton
It's been a battle for runner-up in the Big East all season, and while Marquette has looked like the better team for most of the year, we'll keep them in the same tier for now since neither belongs near UConn nor the tier below.
They will likely be within that three to four seed line for the NCAA Tournament, barring anything drastic, and have the potential for a deep run in the Big Dance.
Tier III: St. John's, Providence, Villanova
Even in defeat to UConn on Wednesday, the Friars deserve a load of credit for even making it a game. They have been better than expected following the season-ending injury to star Bryce Hopkins, and they remain in contention for an at-large bid.
As for St. John's and Villanova, both programs have missed opportunity after opportunity, dropping a combined nine of their previous ten games. The lone win was the Johnnies over the Wildcats.
Tier IV: Seton Hall, Xavier, Butler
Dropping three of their previous four may have proven that the metrics may have been right to be down on Seton Hall. The Pirates are still a part of most bracketology projections, but that won't last long unless they can get back in the win column.
Xavier simply cannot find that all-important win to stamp on their resume, and Butler seems the same way outside of their impressive road win over Marquette. There's a chance we'll see all three teams bow out of the field by Selection Sunday.
