SEC: Alabama (+800)
SEC: Alabama (+800) This team's upside is through the roof. Transfers Aaron Estrada and Grant Nelson were mid-major stars last season and bring dynamism on the offensive end that can win conference championships. The roster turnovers are a legitimate concern, but there does remain a bit of continuity with Mark Sears helping run the show out of the backcourt. The talent is too good to ignore, with Nate Oats, one of the sport's top masterminds, on the sideline. This Crimson Tide team is legit, and they will only get better as they mesh throughout the season.
Power 6 Conference Winners in College Basketball
College basketball season has officially arrived, and it's never too early to declare conference winners for the year. Following an offseason that saw plenty of roster movement due to the record number of players in the transfer portal, teams are looking stronger than ever atop of the Power 6 conferences with some Final Four contenders ready to take the court. We reveal the six teams we see winning the power conference this season in college hoops.
ACC: Duke (+110)
ACC: Duke (+110) In Jon Scheyer's second season, Duke looks like a national title contender yet again. The Blue Devils bring in an exciting recruiting class headlined by five-star recruit Jared McCain to join up with an elite group of returners. Kyle Filipowski, Jeremy Roach, and Tyrese Proctor will guide McCain and the other freshmen on a roster oozing with talent. The critical cog will be how Scheyer plans to combine all these pieces. What's their go-to lineup? When should these freshmen start getting more playing time? Who can step up off the bench? He'll need to find answers to these questions to prove his coaching chops in year two.
Big 12: Houston (+400)
Big 12: Houston (+400) In their inaugural season in the sport's best conference, we've got the Cougs taking the top spot over Kansas. Head coach Kelvin Sampson has pulled off one of the most remarkable rebuilds the sport has ever seen during his time at Houston and has built them into a perennial powerhouse. We see nothing less with this year's team, led by a vicious backcourt. Emanuel Sharp and Jamal Shead return as key contributors, while transfers Damian Dunn and LJ Cryer help round out one of the nation's most talented rosters of guards. Give Sampson gifted guards who can play both ways, and he'll almost always produce the goods.
Big East: Creighton (+270)
Big East: Creighton (+270) This Creighton team is a nightmare to scheme against on the defensive end. The Bluejays have shooters everywhere you see, and it was on full display in their throttling of Florida A&M in their season opener on Tuesday night. Of the ten players to see Creighton's floor, nine attempted a triple as they shot 47 percent from beyond the arc. This team will often have five shooters on the court, and they also boast a defensive ceiling that head coach Greg McDermott has not always had in the past. The Big East better be on notice.
Big Ten: Purdue (+155)
Big Ten: Purdue (+155) While Purdue's disastrous end to last season was what everyone will remember, it is easy to forget that this team started conference play 11-1 last year and went on to win the Big Ten regular season by a landslide three-game margin. Questions remain about whether this team and head coach Matt Painter are built for the postseason. Still, there's no denying that this team dominates from November to February. After an opening night upset over Michigan State - a team considered Purdue's top challenger - we'll take the Boilermakers back-to-back.
Pac-12: USC (+340)
Pac-12: USC (+340) As if USC's backcourt couldn't be any scarier, five-star freshman Isaiah Collier goes for 18 points, six assists, and three rebounds on seven-for-nine from the floor in USC's victory over Kansas State. The six turnovers and five fouls are a concern, but his production seems far ahead of schedule. He'll be paired with preseason First Team All-Pac-12 guard Boogie Ellis and returning junior Kobe Johnson, making this arguably the best backcourt in the conference. There's no telling on the return of Bronny James from his cardiovascular scare back in July, but he could provide some legitimate sharpshooting to this roster. The depth is a slight concern, but the backcourt talent could push the Trojans over the line in some crucial matchups in the Pac-12.
