Atletico Madrid (+2000) – 32% of tickets
What a recent surge for Atletico Madrid, scoring 11 goals and claiming all nine points in its previous three Champions League fixtures. They also sit just two points off the top of the table in La Liga. Diego Simeone is a manager who has seen it all, and he has a squad that is greater than the sum of its parts. Don’t let the 11th-place standing fool you; this team is built for the knockout stage.
Liverpool (+400) – 16%
It’s no surprise that Liverpool is the current favorite to win the competition, claiming 18 of 18 points through their first six league phase matches, including a statement win over Real Madrid. Manager Arne Slot has been instrumental in replacing Jurgen Klopp and bringing immediate success to the club, putting them in pole position to capture multiple trophies this year. The one thing to keep an eye on is player fatigue. The Reds have a packed fixture schedule as one of two clubs in England (along with Arsenal) that are still involved in four competitions, with both teams currently in the EFL Cup semifinals. Both are in the mix to win the Premier League, so these squads have no days off. As we get deeper into the winter and the competition progresses towards the spring, rotation and overall player fatigue may become a serious factor for these midweek matches.
Inter Milan (+1200) – 10%
Inter has displayed the ceiling necessary to go deep into this competition by taking four points off Manchester City and Arsenal during the league phase. And while this squad doesn’t possess incredible depth, there is star power in the important positions. Lautaro Martinez continues to be the catalyst for the attack, Yann Sommer is a reliable shot-stopper between the sticks, and Alessandro Bastoni leads a backline, allowing the second-fewest goals in Serie A this season. If there is a club worth backing as a dark horse option, Inter may be the one.
Bayern Munich (+700) – 7%
Bayern Munich may be your pick if you want a squad loaded with star power. Between Harry Kane, Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala, and Michael Olise, this is one of the most talented squads in the entire competition, and they can beat anyone in any stadium on any night. The most significant question mark here is the managerial abilities of Vincent Kompany. If anything were to hold them back from lifting the trophy in May, it could be his lack of experience on the sport’s biggest stage.
Manchester City (+700) – 6%
It’s easy to assume that many of these tickets came earlier in the season when Manchester City was this impenetrable European giant and favored to win the competition. Since then, things have gone drastically downhill for the reigning Premier League champions, who may need results in their final two league stage matches to squeak into the qualification playoff spots with just one point across their previous three matches. After just six points in 13 matches across all competitions after a Boxing Day draw with Everton, the Citizens have claimed two crucial victories. They’ll need to sustain this recent success, or ticket-holders will be in for a short ride in January.
Real Madrid (+550) – 6%
Real Madrid currently feels like the safest bet to make the semifinals of this competition. Everything you would want in a Champions League-winning team is here. Carlo Ancelotti is the most successful manager in the competition’s history, with five titles. At the same time, there is a laughable amount of attacking talent between Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, and Jude Bellingham. We expected this number to be in the double digits, so seeing a lack of public backing on a European giant like this with so many household names is a bit of a surprise.
Arsenal (+550) – 4%
Despite all of the success Arsenal has seen in its rich history, one trophy has alluded the club: a Champions League. This feels like their best chance at doing so since the Arsene Wenger days after finishing third in the table and dropping just five points in six matches. The advantages of backing a team like Arsenal are culture and system. Many of their current players have been with the club for multiple seasons under manager Mikel Arteta, so there is a clear identity here. That can go a long way in the knockout stage, especially in hostile away environments.
Aston Villa (+2500) – 4%
What a turnaround Unai Emery is continuing to conduct at Aston Villa. It’s also important to note the European success that Emery brings to a club that is making its first-ever appearance in the UEFA Champions League. The Spanish manager has won the Europa League four times with Sevilla and Villarreal and finished as a runner-up with Arsenal. Morgan Rogers is the name to watch here. At just 22 years old, he is a budding star in England and could utilize the Champions League as his stage to announce himself to the rest of Europe.
Barcelona (+550) – 3%
Despite having the second-shortest odds to win the competition, Barcelona is not receiving much love from the public. They sit second in the UCL table with wins over Bayern and Dortmund, while their only loss came when they went a man down against Monaco. It’s hard to explain why there is such little backing for the Spanish giants with goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny in the best form of his career, 20-year-old Gavi proving to be a superstar, and Lamine Yamal continuing to produce at a high level at just 17 years old. The oddsmakers see the potential for a title run from this club, and we believe it’ll be soon enough when the public notices the same.
