Former Training Partner’s Allegations Put Conor McGregor’s Career and Business Relationships Under Scrutiny
Conor McGregor is facing accusations from former training partner Artem Lobov, who trained alongside him in Ireland as McGregor was building his career. The two became close, and McGregor later helped Lobov secure an opportunity in the UFC despite his mixed professional record.
Their relationship has since deteriorated. Lobov claims he helped negotiate the deal that led to McGregor launching Proper 12, which McGregor reportedly later sold for $750 million. Lobov alleges that he was promised compensation for his role but received nothing.
Lobov has also made allegations involving McGregor’s manager and finances, claiming money was taken from McGregor without his knowledge. He further alleges that McGregor has struggled with drinking and cocaine use.
According to Lobov, McGregor also failed to compensate members of his training team properly. He claims McGregor’s trainer was entitled to 5% of his fight purse but received only $100,000 after McGregor earned $100 million from his fight with Mayweather, rather than the alleged $5 million owed.
The segment questioned whether McGregor’s empire is beginning to collapse as relationships around him unravel. It also noted previous misconduct allegations involving women and suggested that McGregor has exhausted much of the goodwill he once had from those close to him.
McGregor’s boisterous and brash persona helped make him successful, but the discussion suggested his trajectory changed after the Mayweather fight. After earning significant money, he began partying and later became involved in promoting bare-knuckle fighting. The segment described promotional appearances in which he appeared inebriated and claimed he was using cocaine.
Despite his decline, McGregor was described as a highly talented fighter who may still have ability. He has discussed returning from his knee injury for one final major UFC fight before the end of his contract. He has also spoken about a possible retirement boxing match against Canelo.
Lobov, however, alleges that McGregor’s last genuine competitive fight has already happened and that any future appearances would be driven by the need to maintain his habits.
