LA Sparks rookie Cameron Brink had a special moment before throwing out the first pitch at the Dodgers’ home opener. She connected with none other than the Dodgers’ two-way sensation, Shohei Ohtani.
Brink, a standout from Stanford and the second overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, received some valuable advice from the Japanese phenom, who recently signed a jaw-dropping 10-year, $700 million deal. The Dodgers’ social media team captured the moment, posting a photo of the pair in the clubhouse with the caption, “Reppin’ LA."
The 22-year-old Brink wasn’t alone in this memorable experience. She was joined by her teammate, Rickea Jackson, who also participated in the ceremonial first pitch. Jackson, a Tennessee alum and the fourth overall pick in the WNBA Draft, expressed her gratitude to MLB.com. “For them to even want to bring us out, this means a lot," Jackson said. “The support we’ve gotten from LA, we’re just grateful to be here."

Both Brink and Jackson have already started to see the impact of their presence in the league. Jackson noted the remarkable growth of the WNBA, especially following her debut with the Sparks last week.
The highlight of the night for Brink was her one-on-one time with Shohei Ohtani. The baseball star, known for his incredible prowess both on the mound and at the plate, greeted Brink warmly. The 6’4" hooper made quite an impression on Ohtani, who couldn’t help but comment on her height. “You’re tall!!" Ohtani exclaimed as they shook hands, acknowledging the presence of the towering basketball rookie.
