I want to talk about San Diego now, because San Diego put pen to paper with a couple of guys, and this was buried on a day where trades were vast at the end of last week. San Diego re-signed Michael King. Michael King is back in a Padres uniform on a 3 year, $75 million contract with San Diego. Player options in 27 and 28. So, you've got a 1 + 1 + 1 deal, totaling 3 for $75. The other one they did was they brought in Sung Mun Song on a 4 year, $15 million dollar deal. This is a KBO utility piece, can play some 2, can play some 3rd, can bounce around a bit. It seemed like the numbers in the KBO were really strong. He had 26 homers and a 917 OPS. It didn't seem like the K rate was egregious either. Uh, this was an interesting day of Padre baseball at the tail end of last week. Uh, no doubt. And, well, first of all. I, I'm just not gonna believe any financial reports about the Padres at this point. Like, and just teams in general. You get all these, you get this and that, you know, oh, they don't want to spend whatever, and then someone, they change their mind. The owners change their mind all the time. And I know it's a little bit more complicated in San Diego, but it still always boils down to, These are all billionaires and like, I, I can promise you they don't need to downsize one of their homes if they do want to sign Michael King. So, sometimes they change their minds, say, screw it, let's go for it. And that's exactly what happened yet again. I also think they took advantage of a situation where I think King was happy to come back and likes pitching there. And I don't know if anybody else was gonna give King. Opt-outs at each year, because this gives King the opportunity to maximize his earning potential. And honestly, it's, it's a very aggressive, like risky contract for the Padres, because if King continues to get hurt, he can just pick up the player option and hold them hostage for multiple years. But I love it. Not my risk, don't care, go for it all. You might as well keep doing it if you're AJ Prower. I, I, I don't know if I wanna, do you want to stay on King? Cause I also, you know, I think the, the, the other signing is slam dunk, no-brainer, love it. I, I just want to stay on King for a moment more, because even if you do get hampered with. Let's call it 2 years and $50 million on Michael King. If he's hurt again this year and it's like, OK, 27 is a wash, 28's a wash. Number one, we don't know how much baseball we're gonna get in 2027, and part of that lies on the players association. So, we'll see what that 27 number looks like, but I, I think Michael King is looking at this saying, OK, do I take 2 for 50 or do I opt out after this year? There are so many simulations where he just opts out and he hits the open market and he gets $100 million. The other thing is, if you're hampered with this, I think San Diego, like, it's a tough pill to swallow, but I think they're OK swallowing it, because what they've gotten from him is this steadying force when he's been on the mound for them. Two years in a Padres uniform, it's been 250 innings and a 3-1 ERA. He's been one of the better pitchers in Major League Baseball since the start of the 24 season when he's been on the mound. So I think they're OK taking that on. But we do have about 90 seconds of this segment. I wanna pivot to Sun because this, uh, you're right, like slam dunk, it makes perfect sense for a team whose bench was not sugarcoating it awful last year. Next level. Their bench got better. Well, and I, I like him a lot. Like, it's gonna be a question to see how he can handle the secondaries, big league secondaries, but what I like is you have the floor. I think of a guy that can move all over the infield. He can play 3rd, he can play 2nd, he can play 1st. Uh, but on the other side of it, he flashed above-average pop. He's the only hitter to take Cody Ponce deep, well, you know, the MVP twice. He was the only player to do that. There you go, Peyton with the tweet. And it, it, I think there's a lot to like here. Um, if it all works out, he's an above-average bat, and I think can fill that Jake Cronenworth role. If not, he's a solid bench piece and you're not paying him a ton of money. And I do think that he makes Cronenworth expendable. It becomes a matter of, can you move that contract? But I think he can fill that Cronenworth role excellently. And if he does that, now you can go move a Jay Cronenworth and you've got, you've got a really solid piece here.
