Kimi Antonelli Becomes F1's Youngest Champion Ever at Age 20

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From LatiNation Sports

Antonelli Claims the Formula One Drivers’ Championship With One Race Remaining

Formula One enters its final race with 20-year-old Antonelli crowned as the youngest drivers’ champion in history. After competing with number 12 this season, he is now eligible to wear number one.

Antonelli’s championship run was built on consistency. Rather than relying on big results, he regularly finished near the front and collected enough points to reach the top of the standings.

The discussion also praised the Mexican fans who supported the race in Mexico City. Formula One continues to draw a large crowd there, while Checo Perez remains a celebrated figure in the sport. Checo recently signed a two-year extension as he continues pursuing more victories.

Each Formula One race awards points to individual drivers and their teams. The drivers’ championship goes to the competitor with the most points, while the constructors’ championship combines the points earned by both drivers on a team. Finishing in the top three produces a podium celebration at each race, but consistency throughout the season determines the championship.

That team structure can create tension when two drivers compete against each other for individual points. In Mexico City, two teammates clashed and cost their team valuable points. Ferrari also faced that problem with Leclerc and Luis fighting for position before both lost the opportunity to score.

Red Bull Racing’s history in Formula One was also discussed. The organization bought into teams that were already competing before eventually acquiring a team outright and renaming it Red Bull Racing. The segment listed Mercedes in first place, Ferrari second, Red Bull Racing third and McLaren fourth heading into the final race.
